These before and after pictures are from a clearance we completed in Birmingham. We were called to Alpha Tower, covering both the 26th and the 27th floor. Packed full of office furniture, we spent a whopping 10 days dismantling furniture and disposing of whatever needed using the service elevator.

Flat Freshen Up in Halesowen

We've recently given an elderly gentleman's flat a refresh on behalf of his family and made is stress free and simple.

An elderly gentleman had to spend some time in hospital, so whilst he was away from his home in Halesowen, his family thought it would be nice to give his flat a freshen up, ready for his return home.

The family didn't live locally, so contacted us for help. They asked us to:

Clear every room,
Remove all carpets and curtains,
Give the whole flat a deep clean.

We then arranged for the whole flat to be re-carpeted.

The elderly gentleman is now back home and returned to a tidy, freshly carpeted flat which his family fitted out with new furniture and curtains.

We cleared a two-bed house in Stourbridge recently and even though a few of our lads were off sick, we still got the job completed on time for the client.

The client had sold the property and needed us to clear the whole house along with two VERY full sheds.

It wasn't anything out of the ordinary in terms of what we removed but, on this occasion, a few of our staff had to take time off work. We never let our clients down, so the office staff mucked in so that we could get everything finished on time.

Tips for clearing out your loft

You can create a lot of usable space in your home by clearing out your loft, but that is much easier said than done. As an experienced clearance company, we’re going to share with you a few tips on how to take away some of the pain.

Prepare

Make sure you’re battle ready and invest in a decent dust mask, protective gloves and goggles. Lofts are dusty places, and your lungs and eyes will benefit from being covered. Also, if you don’t have decent lighting installed, make sure that you’ve got some good torches or camping lights.

Beware of dead things

At the very least there will be quite a few spiders, but look out for wasps, bees, moths, mice, bats and birds. We’ve come across everything in the past including squirrels and it’s always a bit of a shock. If you find that you have a live wasp nest, pest control will need to be used as you can get seriously hurt and if it’s bees, it’s best to use a professional bee catcher. Whilst bees are not legally protected, ethically, it best to avoid harming them where possible.

Bats are protected so cannot be exterminated or disturbed but, the good news is that all species of bats found in the UK are not ridden with harmful diseases and are actually good for the environment. If you’re looking to do some maintenance work and have bats roosting in your loft space, you must contact your local authority who can advise you on the law surrounding the protection of bats and how best to carry out the maintenance.

Food waste

On average in the UK, we throw out £10 billion worth of food in plastic bin bags. This waste goes to landfills, rots and releases CO2 into the air.

The easy answer is to stop throwing out food waste, but you’ll always have peelings or eggshells that you’d usually just throw in the bin.

Why not set up a compost bin/area in your garden where you can throw all of your food waste? Makes a perfect fertiliser and will significantly reduce what actually goes to landfill.

Shop responsibly

Use bags for life and make sure that they’re made from a material that will safely break down, for instance cotton or ones that feel like plastic, but are compostable.

We’re slowly but surely returning to what is now being called the ‘New Normal’ and we’ve been adapting our services throughout the outbreak in order to keep our employees and customers safe.

We’ve always offered remote clearance services for clients who don’t live locally to their property or perhaps don’t want to be there whilst we clear, so to become contactless and maintain social distancing rules, hasn’t been a huge change to our usual practices.

We thought that we’d let you know of the ways in which we’re keeping everyone safe and adhering to the rules.

Remote Clearance Services

We regularly deal with customers who can’t be, or don’t want to be at the property that you need us to clear. This is absolutely no problem and there are a number of ways in which you can give us access to the property.

Recorded Delivery

You can post the keys to us using recorded delivery. When we receive the keys, we will have already had a discussion with you which of our clearance service you require, for example full property, single room, garden, outhouses, garages, loft, single item. No job is too big or too small and we can accommodate your exact needs. We’ll email you pictures of the work carried out and send your keys back using recorded delivery.

Customer is Present at Property

Some customers may actually live in the property or just want to be there whilst we carry out our work. This is absolutely fine as it’s nothing out of the ordinary for us, all that we need to do is maintain a safe distance at all times. Simply open the property then you can wait in your car, in a room that we’ve cleared or a room that we don’t need to enter, or a safe distance outside whilst we carry out the work. You can then inspect everything before we leave.

Leave the Keys at a Collection Point

If you don’t want to post the keys or be present, you can leave the keys somewhere for us to collect. This could be your estate agent, solicitor or even a trusted neighbour. We’ll email you pictures of the work carried out and return the keys to the place of collection. Top Tips for Organising Your Garage

Most of us don’t actually use our garages for storing vehicles, they’re used more as a general storage space.

This means that, more often than not, it can become cluttered and chaotic – not that we’re complaining as we get a lot of business in the way of clearing garages and other types of outbuildings, but we thought that it would be a good idea to share some of our professional organising tips.

Optimise your space

Use shelving that utilises the full height of your garage walls and if possible, use the roof space too. Install overhead storage racks and keep things up there that you don’t use very often such as Christmas decorations.

If you have empty wall space, use it to hang power tools and other large items. That way they’re easy to get to and you will have cleared them from the floor space.

Keep your floor clear

Where possible, avoid storing any items on the floor. If you keep your floor space open, you can keep on top of cleaning. Storing items on the floor also makes the garage look cluttered. You need everything to be visible and stacking things on top of and behind each other will ruin any organising attempts and most probably cause you to swear every time you try to find something.

Create groups

Create groups of similar items such as gardening, car, DIY, sports & outdoor, and anything else that you have room for. Keeping things in categories will make it much easier to find and to keep organised. A peg board is a good solution for storing your DIY tools that you use more often. The key thing is to make all of your most used items easily accessible with no obstructions. Basically, store your items in an order of least used to most used at the front.

Clean, box up and label

If you take a little bit of pride in your garage, you’re more likely to keep it clean. Sweep the floor often and give surfaces a wipe down. By taking a little bit of time every now and again to clean, you’ll be more inclined to keep everything organised and you’ll never have to do an annual ‘big’ clean again. With smaller items store them in boxes and label the front - you’ll never lose a thing and you’ll always have easy access.

Don’t hoard

If you struggle to throw things away ’just in case’, keep a bin in your garage and place any items in it, such as that old screwdriver you never use or that old bag of painting rags. Every time the bin gets full, have a proper sort through and dispose of anything that you haven’t touched for months.

Our biggest piece of advice – do not store food in your garage. The local wildlife will see it as an invitation for dinner and you’ll end up with an infestation that could get into your house.

Clearing a house or flat after a loved one has passed away is a very daunting and emotional experience, but we can be trusted to take care of everything for you in a respectful and attentive manner.

We offer everything that you would need, so you don’t have to organise multiple contractors. We can remove and clear everything from the home and also the garden, garage, loft and outbuildings if needed.

The first piece of advice that we can offer is a decision that only you can make.

Do you want to be present during the clearance?

Seeing a family home stripped of its possessions can be distressing and if you don’t want to be there, we understand. We can ease the burden and arrange to collect the keys from you and get the job done.

If you live some distance from the property, that is no problem.

We can collect the keys from whoever is dealing with the estate and, following any specific instructions that you have, we’ll take care of everything.

Are there items that you want to keep?

It’s important that you let us know about any belongings that you want to keep. If you can, we recommend that you go through personal belongings and take any sentimental items. If you can’t, we can do this for you and collect together any documents, photographs, jewellery or whatever you ask us to look out for and deliver where you need it to go.

The same goes for furniture. If there are items that you want to keep, just let us know and we can deliver to you or a location of your choice.

Selling or renting the property.

Most of the bereavement clearances that we’ve undertaken have needed a top-to-bottom clean. If you’re planning on selling or renting out the property, then this is a must.
